As many as 1,600 housing units were built for resettlement, along with35 low-income residential areas, and 15 schools and clinics wereupgraded as a result of the Urban Upgrading Project for the southerncity of Can Tho, supported by the World Bank (WB).
The Project’s management board on May 30 announced to the WB the above figures, 18 months after it was launched.
The project was funded by a WB preferential loan of 90.3 million USDwith a repayment term of 25 years and an annual interest rate of 2.5percent, along with 20.4 million USD of state corresponding funding.
The five-year project and its four components focus on upgradingtransport, water supply and drainage systems, low-income residentialarea environments; the construction of resettlement housing areas,clinics, schools and markets in the city’s wards.
The UrbanUpgrading Project for Can Tho city is part of a project to upgrade sixcities in the Mekong Delta region by improving the environment andliving conditions for communities.-VNA
