The lantern festival, the biggest among a series of activities held inSri Lanka on this occasion, is taking place at Gangaramaya Pagodafrom May 25-29.
Addressing the opening ceremony, SriLankan Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs D.M. Jayaratneexpressed his delight at the participation of 115 delegations, includingVietnam, saying that it helps create a cultural diversity for thisyear’s festival.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri LankaTon Sinh Thanh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance toreligious freedom and encourages religious and cultural exchanges withother countries, including Sri Lanka.
Joiningthe festival for the first time, Vietnam introduces to visitorslarge-sized lanterns featuring Vietnam’s One-Pillar Pagoda and LotusFlower, which draw much attention from local and foreign visitors.-VNA
