The talks were jointly held bythe Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the National Tourism2014 Steering Committee in Da Lat city on May 27.
Accordingly,to better prepare for the National Tourism Year, the region needs todevelop its available resources, complete tourism infrastructure, andimprove awareness of sustainable tourism development.
Attendingthe talks, Hoang Thi Diep, Deputy Director of the Vietnam NationalAdministration of Tourism, said the National Tourism Year aims toencourage localities to develop tourism to improve local economies andliving conditions for local people.
The Central Highlands willdevelop tourism products based on traditional culture, mountain resortsand border tourism, she added.
Participants also debated the importance of environmental protection in the region’s tourism development.
The National Tourism Year 2014, themed “High mountains and thickforest of the Central Highlands”, along with Vietnam-ASEAN UNESCOHeritage Festival 2013, is part of the socio-economic events tointroduce the regional nature and people to domestic and internationalfriends.
A festival marking the 120 th foundinganniversary of Da Lat city and the fifth Da Lat Flower Festival willalso be held to promote the tourism industry of Lam Dong province.
The Central Highlands-Da Lat National Tourism Year 2014 will featureup to nine programmes and 17 tourism events such as a Brocade festivaland regional dress fashion show, International Gong Festival,International Street Art Festival and various folk festivals and games.
The Central Highlands (or “Tay Nguyen”) is a region ofplateaus in South Central Vietnam, known as a land of mysteriousmountains and forests where gongs can be heard, and a world of customsthat fascinate generations of anthropologists.
The region isfamous for its immense coffee and rubber plantations and is home to themost endangered species of Vietnam and Southeast Asia, such as theIndochinese tiger, the huge gaur, the wild Asian water buffalo and theAsian elephant.-VNA
