Over 2,800 people to join earthquake response exercise VNTimes

More than 2,800 people from army corps, departments, organs and peoplefrom all social strata will participate in a large-scale earthquakeresponse exercise, scheduled to take place on August 28 in central QuangNam province.

A conference on preparations for theexercise was held by the Military Zone 5 High Command and the Quang NamProvincial People’s Committee in neighbouring Da Nang city on May 23,said the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) Newspaper Online.

Participants at the conference briefed on preparations for theexercise in response to earthquake and search and rescue (SAR) anddiscussed contents, locations and participating forces in the exercise.

According to Major General Nguyen Quy Nhon, Deputy Commander of theMilitary Zone 5 High Command, this large-scale exercise will help checkand assess the leadership and management ability of the local partycommittee and authorities, the steering board of flood prevention andSAR at all levels, as well as coordination among relevant forces.

It will also contribute to raising public awareness of measures to response to any earthquake, he added.-VNA
